CULTURAL FUNDING BY GOVERNMENT Cultural expenditure funded by the Northern Territory Government has fluctuated over the last five years. Whilst the level of expenditure was similar from 2007-08 to 2009-10 it fell 11% to $78.1m in 2010-11, the lowest level of expenditure over the five years. The 2011-12 estimate of expenditure ($87.9m) returned to a level similar to 2009-10 ($88.2m). GOVERNMENT CULTURAL EXPENDITURE, NT In 2011-12, the estimate of expenditure of the Northern Territory Government funds on Heritage activities increased by 6% to $72.6m. Expenditure on Environmental heritage increased by 12% from $38.4m in 2010-11 to $43.2m and accounted for 60% of Northern Territory Government Heritage expenditure in 2011-12. Partially offsetting this movement was a drop in expenditure on Other museums and cultural heritage, down 7% ($0.9m) from the 2010-11 level. GOVERNMENT HERITAGE EXPENDITURE, NT In 2011-12, the estimate of expenditure of the Northern Territory Government funds for Arts activities rose 66% to $15.3m. Whilst increased expenditure was reported in the majority of funding categories between 2010-11 and 2011-12, the largest contributors to this movement were the categories of Other arts and Music composition and publishing with increases of $2.5m and $1.3m respectively. Expenditure on Other arts accounted for almost one third (32%) of all Arts expenditure by the Northern Territory Government in 2011-12.
